The Power of Brainstorming Groups

Have you ever spent hours trying to decide how to proceed with a project you’ve been working on? Probably most of us could nod our heads in agreement. Yet start explaining your problem to someone else and suddenly your next steps become obvious. That simple act of discussion seems to trigger ideas.

I’ve found that one of the fastest ways to get myself to take action is by brainstorming with another person or a group of people. All of that extra brainpower can do some amazing things.

I was at a one-day workshop recently and each participant was asked to mention a project they were working on. Then the group asked questions about the topic. Presenting in such a way and answering questions focused each person and gave them specific steps to work on. Learning was much easier in such an interactive session. Instead of writing notes that would soon be forgotten, everyone left full of energy and motivation.

I’m a member of an Internet group that follows a similar process. We meet for a weekly brainstorming webinar, then post our goals for the following week to keep accountable. As the members work on our various projects, we get much needed advice and feedback from one another. Members all have different strengths and cover aspects of planning that might otherwise have been missed. Questions range from “why do you want to do this” to “what do you envision for the future?” Practical help is available with technical problems as well. When we work together for the benefit of each member, bonds are formed and the environment becomes very supportive. We are now doing more than we ever thought possible.

By helping one another instead of just ourselves, we can achieve so much more. Isn’t it time that you tapped in to the power of brainstorming together?
